Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 A few months ago Instagram was taken over by Facebook. A social photo application with more than 50 million users. The app works like Twitter with followers, but instead of a text updates you receive photo updates, on which you can give a response. The App makes it possible to add to your photos. By adding a hashtag, you can tag the photos. Mostly brands are focusing on social media tools like having a Twitter handle or Facebook page to communicate with consumers. But few brands look at photo apps like Instagram and see what they have to offer for their brand. Instagram is an easy, approachable tool to use and share your pictures with. A great tool to make your brand more human. Just as Pinterest you can very easily create a central platform. Or better yet, that the (user generated) content, the images, are being used on your companies website. This will boost your SEO enormously … There are basically four reasons why a brand should consider Instagram: 1. Visual storytelling touches people New studies show that the way customers watch and read is changing. Eyetrack studies have shown that eye movements of the participants of the study, when scanning a timeline, for example on Facebook, stop when showing a photo and read more carefully. Photos are increasingly becoming more important for a brand to tell a story. Instagram does this in a wonderful way. Customers (and employees!) can get a feeling of being more involved by sharing their pictures. Messages with a photo album, a photo or video respectively generate 180 percent, 120 percent and 100 percent more traffic than the average textual item. 2. Instagram is simple, accessible and inexpensive Take a picture with your phone, write a caption, add (if necessary) a nice filter and you’re done. Also Pinterest has proven, less is more. Brands can also post their own pictures, but you can also encourage employees to use of the app. This way the stories which occur internally, are shared externally. Think of employee events, recruiting and more. 3. It’s advertising in a less intrusive way Red Bull for example is from the beginning on Instagram and has run campaigns like the “awesome day”. Smart thinking, because the idea is merely aimed at using customers/fans to spread their images. A brand is always more credible when consumers sheir images than if a brand does. The best word of mouth a company can get! 4. We love to share And yes – we all want to share ‘the moment’ parts. We are becoming like the Japanese, but with our mobiles. This use is still growing. So as a brand you don’t want to miss out! It is an opportunity there for the taking.
