Last week, the folks at econsultancy.com posted results from a CMO Council study examining the disconnect between what senior marketers think consumers want from social and the reality.

It seems that consumers are looking for a specific connection (offers, interaction, access) to a brand while marketers cling to the notion that consumers are looking for “good content.” That last statement begs the question, “What is good content?” And another, “Who decides what is good content?” I’d argue both should be defined by the consumer.

Many companies push content to our audiences before gauging their reaction or even their need. How many of you have asked your audiences what they need?
