Have you heard this statement before?
“You need to know where your customers are and what they want before you start using social media”
This statement creates a lot of unnecessary panic and as a result, people look for quick solutions to answer this question. Most people turn to some type of automated software that finds followers for them. Would use a tactic like that today? Would you walk up and down the nearest retail street if they had an interest in your business and expect them to do business with you? Why would you expect the same with an automated software program?
Gain followers by providing people with “State of the Art” information that they can use and most important, “Provide Information that People Want and Need”
People are “information hungry”. They want good, solid information that adds value to them. If you can provide this type of information on a consistent basis, you have won and they will naturally follow you. This means, you must be coming up with new ideas on a regular basis.
Your goal here is not a large volume of readers or some highly sought out influencer as some people call them. You want people who really want something you have. You want people who will ultimately work with you and do business with you. If you are good at giving people, you will also start to see advocates for you. This is also a good thing.
As far as information:
- It’s about meeting the needs of your clients
- It’s about knowing your industry
- It’s about speaking with authority as a leader
- It’s about experiences
- It’s about expertise
- It’s about recognizing others
- It’s about having an opinion and not merely restating other people’s findings
- It’s about information that makes news and turns eyes
- It’s about people / not about automated software if you want real results.
In order to be successful, you need to make some sales eventually, To do this, you have to be noticed. To be noticed, you have to make sure your information is available on a consistent basis and recognizable. This process takes a lot of time and effort, but once in place, it can keep going on its own, naturally.
