Our society is going to a society of extremes. All it takes is to look at the current presidential election.
A vote for Obama means this _____
A vote against Obama means this _____
A vote for Romney means this _____
A vote against Romney means this _____
You fill in the this _____ part.
Social Media is going the same route with respect to the extreme.
Social media is a waste of time
Social media has replaced all of my other marketing
Every company needs a social media manager
You need to build up your follower counts, like counts, pluses
Blogging is a waste of time
You can debate these topics and spend a lot of time justifying your answer on either side of the issue. There are hundreds of thousands of articles on these topics
My point here is all of us are losing focus.
Where is the client?
What about the client needs?
What products and services do we provide to clients to help them effectively do their job?
More focus needs to occur with respect to the following:
Client
(Identify their needs, Find solutions to their problems, Educate them on the benefits of the company’s products/services)
Products/Services
(Gain a better knowledge of your own products/services, Create training guides, Find ways to better communicate value)
Get Focused Today!
If I told you that in 2013 every cell phone will be a smart phone with internet capabilities, would this change your marketing strategy. Check out this ad for an iPhone 4 – $49.00 – – We may not be that far away. My current phone is an iPhone 4. I have had it for 16 months.
If you were to buy a car today, where would you look? Newspaper, Computer -Internet search, Twitter, Facebook or Linkedin? My guess is that you would start with an internet search.
Our society is looking for answers. Clients have more access to information than ever before.
It is our job as marketers to not get caught up in the noise, but understand our products/services and clients much better. We need to understand that change is a constant and technology is changing at a drastic pace.
Don’t get caught up in the debates…look for ways to succeed. This is where your time and money should go. Stop spending time reading and commenting on debatable information. Let the majority do this type of work. Focus on what counts and you will be miles ahead of your competition.
