The Millennial Generation – those ranging anywhere from 18-to 30-year-olds – can sometimes be viewed as some of the hardest consumer target group to tackle, especially when it comes to social media marketing. The millennial generation was the first group to utilize social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and thus they’re really picky when marketers try to make leeway on their playground. They are unfazed by traditional marketing techniques and get annoyed when marketers saturate their timelines and Twitter feeds with too many updates. In fact, doing so is the quickest way to become unfollowed or unliked.
But while dealing with this particular generation is tricky, studies have shown that millennials are more willing to support businesses that have a mission to make the world a better place. That’s because this particular generation is extremely eco-conscious and philanthropic. Maybe that’s why so many young consumers are willing to pay $50 for a pair of TOMS shoes that only cost a few dollars to make. For every pair of TOMS shoes purchased, a small child in Africa receives a pair of shoes too.
While you’re entire mission statement doesn’t have to revolve around philanthropy like TOMS does, letting your social media followers and friends know that you have a humanitarian side is a really great way to not only attract more young consumers, but also boost office moral. That said, to learn what you can do to showcase your philanthropic efforts, use some of the simple tips below.
Create a Semi-Annual Awareness Campaign
One of the easiest ways to promote your business and shed some light on a specific issue is to create semi-annual awareness campaign. There are several companies that do this all the time can get great exposure for their efforts. Most noticeably is ALDO shoes –recently they held a campaign to promote AIDS awareness. HEB grocer, based in Texas, conducted a breast cancer awareness campaign. Dove soap even had a women’s self-esteem campaign a few years ago. Even if you’re trying to market chocolate chip pancakes, you can still try to find a way to help others; perhaps part of the proceeds will go to a non-profit organization for a month. Be creative.
Hold Contests
Another way to boost SEO organically is to hold contests that offer humanitarian-type awards. For example, perhaps you want someone to write an essay on how they’ve contributed to his or her community for an academic scholarship or a free product that you’re selling. Or perhaps the person who successfully designs a new cover photo could win a small cash prize that will be matched and sent to a needy family in Mexico. The possibilities are theoretically endless.
Post Photos
Last but not least you can show your Facebook fans that your company has a philanthropic side as a whole by posting images of various charitable events that you participate in each month, whether that’s feeding the homeless, planting new trees, or cleaning up the beach.
