Figuring out what you should be posting on social media in the weeks leading up to and even during a trade show is easy. Just put yourself in an attendees shoes and tweet and post information they’d find valuable before and during a show. Attendees top three reasons for attending trade shows and conferences no matter what the industry are: 1) To network 2) To see new products and services and 3) To be exposed to new information and ideas.
All you need to do then is be a source for this information, point them in the right direction and help them network. You can also include some helpful information on the venue and city where the meeting is to be held…and of course, what activities and promotions your company is participating in at the event.
So what 10 things should you be sharing?
- Information on the show with a link to the registration page as soon as registration is open. (Include any discounts you as an exhibitor can offer your friends and followers.)
- Share information about keynote speakers as they are announced.
- Post reminders of when early bird registration is coming to an end.
- Let our audience know which social media platforms the show will be using so they can stay informed with up to the minute information.
- Cull through the show program and point out educational sessions you think your customers and prospects would find useful.
- Tell you community about any sessions the show is live streaming, the agenda, and how they can participate.
- Point out any sessions your company will be presenting
- Share reviews or tips on the official show hotels
- Share restaurant recommendations or things to do in town while attendees are there.
- Tell them about special events that are taking place in your booth.
That will make for a much more interesting social media feed. Far more interesting than tweet after tweet and update after update about whatever it is you are giving away in your booth. I’ve never closely followed anyone on twitter leading up to an event because they were touting their giveaways…but I have kept my eye on people who were providing me with valuable information about the event. This should be your goal. To have everyone’s eyes on you because they see you as a valuable source of information!
