A woman buys a PS4 but gets two Bibles instead of a $400 game console. Sandra Ortiz purchased the item as a Christmas gift for her boyfriend. When her beau opened the box on Christmas morning, however, the pair was shocked to find a pair of Bibles.

Ortiz purchased the console at Target, and the retailer eventually gave her a PS4 once the story broke. In Ortiz’s own words:

“I felt embarrassed. I felt like, you know, I just ruined Christmas for him and everybody else.”

She also remarked that her boyfriend joked that he would only be happy about accepting a Bible in place of a PS4 if it was autographed by Jesus himself.

She also said that Target staff was not all that surprised when she returned the box with the two holy books. According to them, such incidents are not uncommon. In fact, there is another strikingly similar incident of a Colorado man who bought a PS4 at Target and opened the box only to find a bag of heavy rocks wrapped and taped in tin foil. He did get a full refund but only after filing a complaint to Target’s corporate headquarters.

The story has went viral, and the hashtag #SonyPrayStation is trending. While the gift of God’s words is priceless for people of faith, it provided no solace for Ortiz who must’ve felt jipped the minute the box was opened. It also likely put a damper on what would otherwise be a joyous Christmas day.

Of course, there’s a simple way to avoid this from happening in the first place. Just double check and open the box at the store to be sure everything is intact.

The story of a woman buying a PS4 and getting two Bibles instead is comparable to getting coal in your stocking. At least the woman and her boyfriend eventually got the console they paid for.
