Vince Vaughn will be Colin Farrell’s co-star, in the new season of the upcoming True Detective. HBO confirmed it today, after much fan speculation about who will star in the second season of the hit drama.

Farrell was announced Sunday, to be one of the leads in True Detective, and Vaughn has been long rumored to be possible star. Justin Lin, who’s known for his work with Community and The Fast and the Furious, is set to direct the first two episodes.

HBO has come forth with a press release, announcing the roles, the plot, and production details:

“The eight-episode hour-long drama is set to begin production later this fall in California.

Logline: Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes.

Cast: Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Additional casting will be announced as it is confirmed.”

The social media responses, about Vince Vaughn starring in True Detective, are in. The casting didn’t seem to go over well with the Twittersphere.

There are some people that are looking on the bright side, hoping Vaughn will surprise us with his role.

We will discover if Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell are the right choices for the new True Detective leads. HBO claims there are two main roles yet to be announced, if their press release holds out to be factual. True Detective’s second season is expected to premiere in summer 2015.
