Syllabus week is known by many college students to be a time where the workload is low while excitement for the beginning of the semester remains relatively high. Giving the syllabus an overview is generally out of the question for many students so one professor decided to give her syllabus a makeover.

Colby College assistant professor Laura Seay decided to catch the attention of her students by writing the headlines on her syllabi in a clickbait format. Along with the hashtag #ClickbaitSyllabus, Seay began tweeting about the syllabi headlines, which included cat gifs and how people explained historical events as “literally the worst.” The hashtag quickly caught on and soon, academics and many other users joined in.
