The Sunday gone by wasn’t a pleasant one for the ‘Finding Fanny’ actress, Deepika Padukone. One of the country’s leading newspaper ‘The Times of India’ published a picture of her dressed in a low neck gown shot from a top angle, with a rather sensational title “OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show”. The furious actress took to Twitter to lash out at the newspaper along with a screenshot of the said photograph.
In a barrage of tweets, she slammed the popular daily for resorting to create sensational “news’ from the said picture, while giving them a fitting reply about her cleavage and on TOI’s women empowerment talks while disrespecting women themselves.
Supposedly India’s ‘LEADING’ newspaper and this is ‘NEWS’!!?? pic.twitter.com/D3wiVVXuyM

YES!I am a Woman.I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!?? — Finding Fanny (@deepikapadukone) September 14, 2014
Dont talk about Woman’s Empowerment when YOU don’t know how to RESPECT Women! — Finding Fanny (@deepikapadukone) September 14, 2014
Her tweets found immediate support from the film fraternity with her co-stars, directors and mostly every one who is active on Twitter, taking sides with the actress. Many of them including her Finding Fanny co-star, Arjun Kapoor, director Homi Adajania, friends Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Huma Qureshi tweeted their resentment at the Times Of India’s rampant practice of resorting to cheap journalism.
While the movie which was in the talks the whole of last week, released on Friday to receive widespread critical acclaim from all quarters, this was not what the actress was expecting from a leading newspaper. While the support began rising, TOI chose to reply to the actress with this rather dumb tweet: “It’s a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! :)”
This tweet has now been deleted by TOI and what now follows is an army of supporters on Twitter, that is growing by the minute. Find below a list of some tweets that best capture the pulse of Twitterati, including the film fraternity:
