Toy: Dueling Wizards

Inventor: Joe Hanlin

Dueling Wizards allow “aspiring wizards [to] use wands to toss spells at each other,” according to ABC.

The mentors think it’s fun but worry about the “spells” blocks material, which is currently too hard due to 3D printing. Jen Tan thinks it’s a cool concept and design and passes it to the Toy Box. Dylan Lauren doesn’t “get it” and thinks it’s a bit of a waste of money and time—she does not give it the “okay” to enter the Toy Box. Jim Silver breaks the tie and sends it to the Toy Box.

In the Toy Box, the kid judges like the magic component, but Sophia Grace Brownlee isn’t a big fan of the wizard theme overall. They also believe the “spells” need to be softer. Toby Grey doesn’t think it has much of a “wow” factor. Ultimately, Dueling Wizards fails to make it to the finals.

Hosted by “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet, “The Toy Box” helps inventors make their toy creation dreams become a reality. According to their website, the inventions are brought before mentors, including Dylan’s Candy Bar owner Dylan Lauren, toy guru Jim Silver and Pixar creative director of Consumer Products, Jen Tan. If they pass phase one, they then have the opportunity to face the ultimate toy-loving panel of judges: kids. The panel features Sophia Grace Brownlee, Aalyrah Caldwell, Toby Grey and Noah Ritter. The kids determine which toys make it to the finals and, ultimately, the one winning toy that will sold at Toys“R”Us.

A new episode airs each Friday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
