Every year, certain movies and television shows sweep the masses and take over pop culture, therein making them huge targets for people looking to be trendy with their halloween costumes. In 2013, Breaking Bad was a big hit with both adults and unsuspecting kids. There were also some viral-video related costumes that took over 2013, including costumes related to the video What Does the Fox Say?”
In 2014, Frozen dominates the marketplace according to Google Search data. The Disney film was one of the biggest hits of the year in 2013, and that success has not waned in the Halloween costume market.
The top 10 most searched or requested Halloween costumes for 2014 are as follows:
10 – Assassin’s Creed
9 – Dog Spider
8 – Groot, from Guardians of The Galaxy
7 – Captain America
6 – Black Widow, from The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier
5 – Anna, from Frozen
4 – Any of the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
3 – Maleficent
2 – Olaf, from Frozen
1 – Elsa, from Frozen
As you can see, Disney’s smash hit Frozen is dominating the Halloween market this year. Of the ten most popular searches for Halloween costumes listed here, only two – Dog Spider and Assassin’s Creed – are not directly related to popular movies from 2014.
While these searches are related to customers seeking out and purchasing full costumes, many of these same costumes are being searched as a Do-IT-Yourself, or DIY costumes. Olaf and Elsa are also among the most popular DIY searches, along with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there are a few more popular DIY options. Many are looking up ways to do Minnie Mouse on their own. Some are searching for how to make a Minion costume from the Despicable Me movies.
Other searches are more general, like DIY superhero searches, or couples costume ideas. Other movie-themed Halloween Costumes for 2014 include the rest of the characters in the summer blockbuster Guardians of The Galaxy, and Transformers costumes, which seem to always be popular options.
