Happy Teacher Appreciation Day! Observed annually during the first full week of May, the day recognizes educators for their dedication and commitment to making a difference in their students’ lives and shaping future generations. Many people took to social media on Tuesday to thank their teachers and mentors for inspiring and encouraging them throughout their educational journey.
According to the National Day Calendar, Teacher Appreciation Day is described by the National Education Association “as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.” To mark the occasion, the NEA recommends thanking your favorite teacher on social media and wearing red on May 9 to support those “who are fighting for school funding, professional pay, and better learning conditions for their students.”
Many businesses across the country are also honoring teachers with special discounts and freebies during Teacher Appreciation Week. The eateries offering free food to teachers today include Chipotle, Cici’s and Raising Cane’s.
