Legendary rapper Tupac “2Pac” Shakur died 20 years ago today at the age of 25 after being gunned down in Las Vegas. His first studio album was released in 1991.

In addition to his music, Shakur was also known as a social activist. According to the International Business Times, he “took umbrage with the way police treated black people. If that sentiment sounds familiar, it’s because much of what the current Black Lives Matter social justice movement stands for is in line with much of what 2Pac rapped about and spoke publicly on.”

All Eyez On Me,” a Shakur biopic, is set to be released later this year, and will focus on his music and activism. It stars Demetrius Shipp, Jr. in the leading role, in addition to Danai Gurira, Kat Graham and Dominic L. Santana.

The artist and activist was remembered on social media for all that he contributed in his lifetime.
