Today we celebrate all those whose paintbrush is a pen and those whose final product is words strung together into a poem. It’s National Poetry Day!

England’s National Poetry Day celebrates all things poetry and poetical in an effort to increase those who appreciate the art of poetry. This year’s celebration occurs on Oct. 6, however, the date changes from year to year. The United States’ National Poetry Month occurs in April, while UNESCO’s World Poetry Day is celebrated in March.

Social media users took to Twitter to share their favorite lines of poetry, including those from well-known writers William Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe, in addition to little made-up poems and quotes about the art of poetry.
