Happy Winnie the Pooh Day! Celebrated annually on Jan. 18, National Winnie the Pooh Day commemorates author A. A. Milne’s birthday.

According to the National Day Calendar, everyone’s favorite “stuffed-with-fluff” Pooh bear was “inspired by a black bear named Winnie who lived at the London Zoo during World War I.” Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, formed his own friendship with a teddy bear, naming it Pooh, and inspiring the collection of books. The first book was published in 1926 and has since gone on to become a lovable classic.
