Debra Tate, sister of Sharon Tate, has called Charles Manson’s recent nuptials “ludicrous” and “insane.”
Sharon Tate was murdered by The Manson Family in 1969 at a home in Southern California. Debra has been working fervently her entire life to make sure Charles Manson is never released from prison. The news this week that Manson has been allowed a marriage license in order to wed Afton Elaine Burton, to which Tate commented “It’s always something with him.”
Tate said Manson’s bride, a 26-year old Midwesterner who moved to California nine years ago to be close to the psychopath, believes Manson is leading a campaign to save the environment. “I wonder how long it will take for her to figure out this is just a con,’ she said. “It makes me wonder what is missing in her life that she would want to marry an 80-year-old man. Is she a victim? Is she mentally deranged?”
Debra Tate has recently published a coffee-table book about her slain sister, with no mentions about Manson or the murders because she wants to keep that separate from her sister’s memory. “There are no M words in the book. No Manson, no murder,’ she said. “It’s a celebration of Sharon’s life, her fashion sense, her physical beauty and her spirit.” The book also has an introduction by Roman Polanski, who was married to Tate when she was murdered. Sharon Tate was also eight-months pregnant with Polanski’s child at the time of her murder.
The Sharon Tate murder has historically been pointed to as the death of the hippie era in the 60s. She was killed, along with four other people, were stabbed to death by young girls whom Manson had brainwashed. Manson, along with the killers, were originally sentenced to the death penalty. However, once the death penalty was outlawed in California, their sentences were changed to life in prison.
Debra Tate, Sharon Tate’s last surviving sibling, has attended every Charles Manson parole hearing in order to fight against his release.
