Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed that Iron Man 4 will be released in the future. As of right now, it’s up in the air when the superhero film will go into production, but we know it will be probably be after The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and The Avengers 3.
Downey has stated recently that his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is uncertain, since he is only signed on for Avengers 2 and 3 as Tony Stark. He’s even been quoted saying that there’s no plans for an Iron Man 4.
Well, those rumors were shot down today, when he announced that Iron Man 4 is in the works on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he made a guest appearance.
When asked if Iron Man 4 is going to happen, Downey says, “I know there’s going to be a bunch more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best and we’re in the middle of negotiation…” Ellen then cuts him off and asks if his answer was a yes. Downey replies, “Okay, yes!”
The audience is pleased with the good news about Iron Man 4. You can watch the clip with Robert Downey Jr. confirming the movie below.
Today on Reddit, Downey was also apart of a Reddit AMA, where he cryptically stated the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with, “Sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered.”
We don’t know what that means, but we know the Marvel Cinematic Universe is changing, and Iron Man 4 is one of the unannounced films to come.
Who else could take up the mantle of Tony Stark, a role Stan Lee said Downey was born to play? We hope he remains metal clad superhero, but we now know Iron Man 4 is official.
Whether or not Robert Downey Jr. will reprise Tony Stark in Iron Man 4 is unclear. You can see him as Iron Man in The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.
