Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged! On Monday, the British royal and the American actor and humanitarian made their first public appearance since their engagement was announced and posed for photographers at Kensington Palace. The couple is set to tie the knot in spring 2018.
“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle,” an official statement from the Clarence House reads. “His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.” Markle’s parents, Mr. Thomas Markle and Ms. Doria Ragland, said in a separate statement that they are “incredibly happy” for the newly-engaged couple.

The Associated Press reports that Harry designed the dazzling engagement ring, which “features two diamonds that belonged to his late mother Princess Diana, and a central diamond from Botswana, a country he and Markle have visited together.” In their first joint interview since the engagement announcement, the “Suits” star gushed over the proposal, which she revealed “was so sweet and natural and very romantic.” The prince also indicated that he knew Markle was the one “the first time we met,” according to royal commentator Victoria Murphy.
Prince William and Kate Middleton, who were married in 2011 and are currently expecting their third child, congratulated the couple on their engagement. “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan,” they said in a joint statement. “It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.” Prince Charles said he is “thrilled” about the engagement. The couple, who began dating in the summer of 2016, will live in Nottingham Cottage in London.

This is one celeb story that makes me happy. #PrinceHarry has long carried on his late mother's social justice work, #MeghanMarkle has been addressing Hollywood's racism & colorism with outspoken forthrightness throughout her career.
Wishing them well. https://t.co/WIGRI963gQ— Victoria Brownworth (@VABVOX) November 27, 2017
