Disney Pixar’s latest film perfectly blends together music and magic. The Día de los Muertos-inspired “Coco” musical film will take viewers on an emotional journey through a visually stunning landscape.
In the first teaser trailer, Pixar previews the story of main character Miguel as he ventures into a world of music, inspired by his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. Taking the famed singer’s guitar from his grave has unexpected consequences, however, as Miguel is transported into the Land of the Dead. Music will guide his journey as he meets his ancestors and learns more about his family.
According to IMDb, the film “follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events relating to a century-old mystery, leading to an extraordinary family reunion” in the Land of the Dead. It stars Anthony Gonzalez (Miguel), Benjamin Bratt (Ernesto de la Cruz), Gael García Bernal (Hector) and Renee Victor (Abuelita). Another character, Dante the dog, is a Xoloitzcuintle or Mexican hairless dog, according to director Lee Unkrich.

Disney was criticized in 2013 for trying to trademark “Dia de los Muertos” before landing on the current film title. Unkrich told EW, “There was never any conscious effort to try to trademark a holiday because that’s crazy, and we would never try to do that. But it happened, and we regret it, and we’re so sorry for it.” The application for trademark registration was later withdrawn.
“Coco” is set to be released in theaters November 22, 2017.

Can't help but think that "Coco" looks like someone draped a Latin theme over a Disney-fied version of Laika's "Kubo and the Two Strings"

Gerald and Dante look like they could be related. Maybe distant cousins or something? @leeunkrich #Coco #FindingDory pic.twitter.com/1Jgc6BkhVL
