12 years after the original, a sequel is finally coming to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Opa! NiaVardalos, who played the lead character Toula Portokalos, announced the plans on her Twitter on Tuesday.

Vardalos even told Mashable that she has been working on these plans for four years now. Even though it took a while, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding this announcement. The original romantic comedy, which brought in over $200 million, followed the life of Toula Portokalos and her family attempting to find love for her in a Greek man. Things are shaken up a bit, however, when she falls for a non-Greek man, Ian Miller who “don’t eat no meat.”

After thanking the Twitter community for all the love they were showing, she said, “yes the entire big fat family is invited back for the sequel,” Vardalos said on her Twitter.

Well we would sure hope so! It has been confirmed that John Corbett will also be reprising his role as Vardalos’ characters’ husband. Who can resist seeing this romance on the screen again?

Not many details have been announced about the sequel yet, but Vardalos has hopes to bring together the original cast. Apparently, there’s also a big secret and a “bigger, fatter wedding.”

While you’re waiting for the sequel to arrive to theaters, maybe you could be held over by a quote that is often referenced in the movie for a “cure all” for ailments.
