Facebook Message and Expelled Son

Ashley Habat is claiming that her 4-year-old son was expelled from his preschool because of a personal post she placed on her private Facebook page.

Habat tells WJXT News that she didn’t realize it was picture day when she dropped her son off at school.

“The administrator of the preschool checking him in she’s like, “Well it’s picture day Will are you excited?” and you know he of course just went on to class but I had mentioned that they didn’t give enough notice. And she’s like, “Well we put it in his folder last week.”

The angry mother who missed the announcement didn’t vent her frustration directly at the schools officials, instead she told her Facebook friends that she didn’t like the school. The boys mother then told her friends that some of the preschools educators were “ignorant.”

In her private Facebook post she writes:

“Why is it that every single day there is something new I dislike about Will’s School? Are my standards really too high or are people working in the education field really just that ignorant?”

Habat says of the schools viewing of her post, “They couldn’t see it. It was private to my friends only.”

However, Habat actually tagged the school in the post, an action that allowed them to see her friends only message. The next day she received the following letter:

“Your relationship with Sonshine did not get off to get a very good start the first day of school. You utilized social media to call into question not only the integrity but the intelligence of our staff. These actions are consistent with sowing discord which is spoken of in the handbook you signed.”

After her son was expelled because of her actions, the mother added, “Why would you expel a 4 year-old over something his mom posts on her private Facebook page.”
