Miley Cyrus didn’t just win Video of the Year at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, she also won the night for quite possibly the most unselfish moment in the history of the show.

Instead of heading to the stage to thank her manager, producers, song writers, and fans, she sent a young man named Jesse to the stage. Jesse accepted the Moonman on her behalf, and then he talked about the issue of youth homelessness in Los Angeles, and all around the country.

As attendees and TV viewers looked on Jesse explained, “I survived in shelters all over the city… I’ve cleaned hotel rooms, been an extra in your movies and in your life.”

Jesse then asked fans and viewers to head over to Miley Cyrus’ Facebook page where Miley posted the following message:

In the video’s description Miley Cyrus writes:

“Help me raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness! This is just the beginning for me, but we’re going to get started now by focusing on My Friend’s Place, a homeless center for young people in Hollywood.”

Whether you love or hate her acting career and music, it’s hard to deny that her selfless act won the night at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.
