Meghan McCain is officially the new conservative voice on “The View.” The author and former Fox News contributor joined the daytime talk show’s Hot Topics panel as a co-host on Monday morning. The 32-year-old daughter of Senator John McCain replaced Jedediah Bila, who abruptly exited the show last month.
“First of all, thank you all so much for having me, it’s such a privilege to be on the show….It’s such an iconic show and it’s so iconic specifically to be sitting in this chair that Elisabeth [Hasselbeck] made so great,” McCain said after taking her seat. “I watched Elisabeth in college, as a young Republican when I was in college, and to be the conservative on this show is something that I take very seriously and I’m excited to bring a different perspective to the show.” Variety first reported that McCain was joining the panel, which consists of Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Paula Faris, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, last month.

Sen. McCain congratulated his daughter and celebrated her first day on the show, tweeting, “Watching @MeghanMcCain’s first day on @TheView @ABC – we are very proud!” He later added, “Congratulations @MeghanMcCain on your first day on @TheView. Our family couldn’t be prouder of all that you continue to accomplish.”
McCain began her first day on the panel by thanking Goldberg for her support, sharing that she learned of the hosting gig at the hospital while she was with her father and updating the audience on his health after it was revealed in July that he had a brain tumor. The new conservative co-host criticized President Donald Trump on Twitter last month for mocking her father. “What more must my family be put through right now?” she tweeted. She has also slammed former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for failing to “move on” from her loss in the 2016 presidential election.
What more must my family be put through right now? This is abhorrent. https://t.co/xJmFdh93xL
