If you thought the villainous ballad “Gaston” from Disney’s animated “Beauty and the Beast” couldn’t possibly get any better, think again. During Lin-Manuel Miranda’s recent takeover of the Walt Disney Animation Studios Instagram, the “Hamilton” star serenaded viewers with songs from classic Disney movies.
In one video, Miranda begins to sing “Gaston” when, seemingly out of nowhere, “The Rock” comes into the picture to sing along. At the end of the video, “Miranda jokingly sings, “Oh my god, that is The Rock!” while Johnson flexes his muscles. As if we needed another reason to love Miranda and “The Rock.”
During his takeover of Disney Animation’s Instagram, Miranda also sang snippets from other Disney classics, such as “One Jump Ahead (Reprise)” from “Aladdin,” “Santa Fe” from “Newsies,””I’ll Make A Man Out of You” from “Mulan” and even “Under the Sea” featuring newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, who plays the title character in Disney’s upcoming film “Moana.” One of the final songs he sang during the takeover was a mashup of songs from “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
His last takeover post was a song from “Moana,” which is more than fitting seeing as how Miranda is one of the composers for the film. He was joined by Cravalho, “The Rock” and the film’s directors. “Moana” hits theaters Nov. 23.
