In her new memoir, Brooke Shields says Liam Neeson proposed to her and subsequently broke up with her on Christmas Day.

Shields discusses the three-month romance with the movie star in her new book, “There Was A Little Girl,” as well as in an interview with People. It was in 1992 after she broke up with her boyfriend at the time, actor Dean Cain, whom she apparently lost her virginity to. According to the book, “[Liam] wooed me with his brogue, his poetry and his (expletive) choice of cheap pinot grigio wine.”

The couple dated for three months before Neeson popped the question, though Shields doesn’t say how she responded. In a strange excerpt, Shields describes how the couple had a drunken night in New York on Christmas, when Neeson claimed he had to fly back to Los Angeles to check on his house. And then, just like that, he flew away and never called her back.

Shields also mentions how Neeson eventually returned to propose once again:

“He came back after the first time he left me and asked me to marry him again,” Shields said. “This was before he started to do a play (“Anna Christie”). And I said, ‘No, no, no, because knowing you, you’ll probably fall in love with your next leading lady and marry her, so I’m leaving myself out of this.’ And I was dead right.”

She didn’t go into much more detail about the Liam Neeson Proposal or the affair, saying it “would make the book too long,” since this book focused on her relationship with her mother, who died from dementia in 2012.

The leading lady she is referring to is Natasha Richardson, whom Liam Neeson married in 1994. Sadly, Richardson died in a freak skiing accident in 2009.

Neeson can be seen next in the upcoming sequel Taken 3.
