A hit off-Broadway play will soon be bringing its comedic magic to thousands of people around the world. “Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic,” which is described as a “tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world,” is set to create a filmed production of their “Harry Potter” parody show with the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign.
According to the Kickstarter campaign description, the off-Broadway comedy “was created by a group of friends on a shoestring budget at the Peoples Improv Theater. Since then, it has been seen by almost 30,000 people as it’s continued its journey from the PIT, to the Elektra, and now to the esteemed New World Stages, also home to Avenue Q and Jersey Boys.”
The campaign, which was launched Dec. 1, aims to raise money so that the show can be filmed and streamed/downloaded by their many fans. The Tilted Windmills Theatricals’ original goal was $50,000, which would go towards production and post-production costs. Now, with just a few hours left in the campaign, they have received more than $60,000 in pledges.
The additional $10,000 will help the “Puffs” team perfect the props and costumes before the show is filmed in front of a live audience on Feb. 3 and 4, as well as benefit the post-production process, according to a campaign update. If their second stretch goal of $70,000 is achieved, the extra money will be used for marketing and “guaranteeing the production of a physical copy of the show.” The rewards for supporting the project include a download of the “Puffs: Live Off-Broadway” show, Puff Pride t-shirt, signed posters and limited-edition lapel pins.
The project was listed by Kickstarter as a “Project We Love” and has more than 1,300 backers. The “Puffs” Kickstarter campaign ends at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 12.
