The world’s most famous cartoon mouse celebrates his 88th birthday today! “Steamboat Willie” first premiered on Nov. 18—the day Mickey Mouse, a cartoon star, was born.

Mickey Mouse joined the cast of “Good Morning America” to debut his “Birthday Trip Around the World” video, which Disney had been teasing for more than a month with passport photos and postcard pictures on the official Mickey Mouse Instagram. Mickey’s birthday adventures brought him to Los Angeles, Kyoto, Japan; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Cusco, Peru; Rome, Italy; Shanghai, China and Paris, France, where crazy dance moves were shown off and fans sent their birthday love.

According to Time, Mickey is one of the most recognizable images in the world, “even beating out Santa Claus.” As Walt Disney said, “I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.”

Twitter joined in on the birthday celebrations, sending birthday wishes to Mickey Mouse (and Minnie!), in addition to sharing timeless quotes from Walt Disney. Take a look at some of the #HappyBirthdayMickey wishes below:
