‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Soundtrack On Cassette Tape In November

Guardians Of The Galaxy Cassette

Billboard announced on Monday that Guardians of the Galaxy will release its soundtrack as a limited edition cassette on Nov. 17.

Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) brings his Awesome Mix Vol. 1 on his cassette player everywhere in the film because it’s the only thing he has left of his deceased mother. As Peter danced and reminisced to his mom’s mix tape, for many fans the soundtrack became one of the best and most memorable parts of the Marvel movie.

The Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and is currently the 10th largest selling album of 2014. It has been available as a digital album, CD, vinyl, and even a “Deluxe Edition,” but not as the cassette shown in the movie.

Marvel and Hollywood Records are changing that, and offering the cassette tape from November until December 31, or until supplies last. The cassette will be available only to independent retailers partnered with Record Store Day. This will mark the first audio cassette Disney has released since 2003.

The Guardians of the Galaxy DVD and Blu-ray will release on Dec. 9.

For novelty purposes, the cassette will come with the classic mix tape cover art and all of the song titles will be written in pen.

Director James Gunn has already confirmed that he’s considering an Awesome Mix Vol. 2 which would be included in Guardian of the Galaxy 2 opening on July 27, 2017.
