Ed Sheeran is making dreams come true for one young fan. He recently visited 9-year-old Melody, who spends most of her time in the hospital, and sang some of his biggest hits to make her day just a bit brighter.

Melody Driscoll suffers from Rett syndrome, a rare genetic neurological disorder. She is unable to walk or talk and spends 80 percent of her life in the hospital, according to a Melody In Mind Facebook post. Melody has undergone more than 40 surgeries and spent 562 days in the hospital during her longest admission. She was not expected to live past 4 years old, however, she continues to defy the odds.

Given that Sheeran is her Prince Charming, he decided to visit Melody in the hospital, while still on a break from social media, and sweetly serenade her with such hits as “Photograph” and “Thinking Out Loud,” all while strumming a little pink ukelele.

The Driscolls later took to Melody’s Facebook page to thank Sheeran for making their “princess’s dream come true.” The note explains how Melody still manages to smile every day: “You are the one that has made all of that happen. She fell in love with you when ‘Thinking Out Loud’ came on tv for the very first time. Her reaction said it all. She sat there beaming at you on the tv and didn’t take her eyes of you for a single second.”

The note also explains how impressed they were that he came without security, no publicity and that “she fights to stay in this crazy world just because of you.” It concludes with another heartfelt thank you: “You are a true inspiration to everyone and I can see exactly why Melody fell in love with you. I’m so glad she chose you to be her Prince. To us, her parents you are our hero. I keep playing the videos over and over. I can’t help it. Thankyou for everything. For just being you. You are melody’s guarding Angel. I can never thank you enough but I hope this letter shows you what you mean to us all and what you mean to the world.”
