The latest accessory in Halloween fashion may just be the stuff of nightmares. For $285, you can don a pair of shoes that are made to look like real horse hooves and fur.
In a Facebook video that has now gone viral, the shoes are being modeled with various movements and sounds, including the clip-clop hooves make on hard surfaces and even a galloping motion. The video has amassed more than 19 million views.
Turns out, the shoes in the video are sold by Etsy designer ChaosCostumes. The unisex faux fur feathered horse hooves are sold for $285 and measure in at about four inches. It also comes with leggings so those who wear them can really get that full horse effect. Separately, the hooves are $185 and the add-on fur covers cost $95. They have a five-star rating in the Etsy shop from more than 300 reviewers.
According to designer Blair Ondria, the shoes “are as ‘comfortable’ as most high heels and do not affect your calf muscles all that much.” She describes them as stable, able to be run in (in case you spot a creepy clown) and best used on flat terrain. The default color of the hooves is brown but buyers can request another color if they want to get a bit more adventurous.
One Facebook user wrote on the video, “I don’t know who’d wear those but that could be a kickass Halloween costume whether you’re a trick or treater or you’re giving out candy, Lol!🎃” An apparent customer commented as well, saying that “they definitely take a bit of getting used to” and advised buyers to invest in a pair of elastic ankle supports. “Overall, I really enjoy them”
The Etsy designer also sells faun leggings and hooves, as well as knee-high hoof boots for those who want to kick their equine dreams up a notch.
