President Donald Trump’s first trip back to New York has been cut short. Instead of creating “a big disruption” in the city, the president announced Friday morning on Twitter that he would be spending the weekend at his New Jersey golf club.

“Rather than causing a big disruption in N.Y.C., I will be working out of my home in Bedminster, N.J. this weekend,” Trump wrote. “Also saves country money!” Many were not convinced, however, that staying in New Jersey would really be saving the country any money. Trump is already expected to surpass the travel spending of former President Obama in just one year.

Additionally, Trump’s trips to the Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster golf clubs have cost $26 million in his first 16 weeks as president. The Center for American Progress Action Fund estimates that those tax dollars could pay for 4,000 Medicaid recipients. Bloomberg also estimates that New York has spent more than $41 million to protect Trump.

The New York Times reports that, on Thursday, Trump arrived at Kennedy International Airport in New York and traveled to the Intrepid, where he met with Australian Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull and commemorated the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea. From there, he made his way to his home in New Jersey and was greeted by protesters. Now that Mar-a-Lago will soon be closed for the season, Trump is expected to spend more time at Trump National Golf Club, his “summer White House.” A Bedminster resident told CBS News that Trump’s visit could be a “complete nightmare.”
