President Donald Trump is in hot water for hurling insults at “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on Twitter. In a series of tweets sent Thursday morning, as the MSNBC show aired, Trump criticized the “poorly rated” news show and ridiculed Brzezinski’s looks.

“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore),” Trump tweeted. “Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!”

Lawmakers quickly took to Twitter to denounce Trump’s tweets. “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America,” Senator Lindsey Graham wrote. Additionally, Senator Ben Sasse said Trump’s tweets were “beneath the dignity of your office,” while Representative Lynn Jenkins stated, “We should be working to empower women.”

MSNBC later responded to Trump’s tweets in a statement, saying, “It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job.” Brzezinski appeared to respond with her own tweet, which contained only a photo of a Cheerios box with the phrase, “Made for Little Hands”—an apparent dig at the popular mockery of Trump’s small hands. Other NBC employees defended their colleagues.

Many on social media found Trump’s tweets especially ironic given that First Lady Melania Trump has previously stated that she would focus on combatting cyberbullying in her role. However, according to Stephanie Grisham, the FLOTUS’ communications director, she actually defended Trump. Per CNN, Grisham said, “As the First Lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder.”

This is certainly not the first time Trump has sparked backlash from his comments and personal attacks against women. Just this week, Trump interrupted a conversation to call over a female journalist and compliment her on her “nice smile.” Last year, a leaked tape revealed that Trump had made lewd comments about women in a hot mic conversation with Billy Bush. Additionally, when questioned by former Fox News host Megyn Kelly at the Republican presidential debate, Trump said, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”

Trump has yet to follow up to his most recent disparaging remarks.
