Dancing with the Stars: Marilu Henner and Derek Hough Dance Fun Jersey Boys-Themed Samba for Showstoppers Night

The first couple to take the dance floor for “Showstoppers Night” is Marilu Henner and Derek Hough, dancing the samba to “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” from “Jersey Boys,” featuring Mark Ballas and The Four Seasons.

Guest judge Idina Menzel says she is inspired by Marilu, adding that she did an amazing job. Julianne Hough agrees, saying that it looked like she had a lot of fun and “what a night” it was for her. Bruno Tonioli says is was bright and sizzling, adding warmth and joy to the performance. Carrie Ann Inaba says she loves their partnership, adding that she really gave it her best. They score a 36 out of 40.

“Showstoppers Night” brings the glitz and glamor of Broadway to the dance floor tonight. Couples will dance to shows that are currently playing, as well as those that have ended their run. They will also all perform a second song as part of the “Team-Up Challenge.” Dance styles include the samba, paso doble, contemporary, waltz, Charleston and jazz. Scores from the challenge will be added to the final judges’ scores from the first round of competition. Idina Menzel joins the judging panel tonight as a guest judge and will also perform her new single “Queen of Swords.” Other performers include Leona Lewis and Mark Ballas (former pro) and The Four Seasons. One couple will be eliminated tonight, as five couples near the semifinals.

Now in its 23rd season, “Dancing with the Stars” is hosted by Tom Bergeron and sports broadcaster Erin Andrews. The judging panel is composed of ballroom experts Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli. Their scores, along with America’s votes, determine who gets to stay and who is sent home each week as couples vie for the coveted Mirrorball trophy.

This season’s star-studded line-up includes Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez with Val Chmerkovskiy, actress Marilu Henner with Derek Hough, former NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. with Lindsay Arnold, reality TV star Terra Jolé with Sasha Farber, country singer Jana Kramer with Gleb Savchenko, and IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe with Sharna Burgess. Jake T. Austin, Rick Perry, Vanilla Ice, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Amber Rose, Maureen McCormick and Ryan Lochte have since been eliminated from the competition.

“Dancing with the Stars” airs every Monday night starting at 8 p.m. on ABC.
