Comedian Charlier Murphy died Wednesday at the age of 57. Murphy, “Chapelle’s Show” star and the older brother of Eddie Murphy, passed away after battling leukemia.

TMZ reports that Murphy died Wednesday morning in a New York City hospital and had been undergoing chemotherapy. “Family members tell us they’re absolutely shocked because they thought he was getting better” according to the report.

Murphy was best known for his appearances on Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show” in hilarious skits, in addition to collaborating with writing and starring in different films.

Tributes poured in from thousands on social media, including memories on one of Murphy’s last tweets. The tweet, sent Tuesday night, reads, “One to Sleep On: Release the past to rest as deeply as possible.”
