CeeLo Green will not be performing at a Navy-sponsored concert after posting several disturbing tweets about what he believes rape involves.

A statement released by Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation announced Green’s removal from the Naval District Washington’s Freedom Live concert to be held on September 20.

On September 2, CeeLo Green tweeted that  “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!” The singer then tweeted that  “if someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH implies consent.”

Green’s strange set of comments arrived just days after he pled no contest to  a charge of spiking a female’s drink with the drug Ecstasy in 2012. After sharing a drink with CeeLo, the woman claimed that she woke up in his bed the next morning, with no recollection of the event. Rape charges were never filed by the district attorneys office due to a lack of evidence.

According to the Navy, CeeLo was dropped from the event because his Tweets were, “completely inconsistent with Navy core values.”

On its Facebook page the military division writes: “Regardless of intent or context, the lack of sensitivity towards an issue that is one of the great challenges facing our Navy is unacceptable.”

Following his comments the “Crazy,” singer briefly deleted his Twitter account, but not before he issued a quick apology. After reinstating his Twitter account CeeLo said he would “never condone the harm of any women.”

One day after reinstating his Twitter account Green took his comments a step further, adding, “I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.”

Little Big Town is headlining the concert. Fans of CeeLo Green are being offered a full refund if they choose to forgo the concert in his absence.
