If all the world’s a stage, then the casts of “The Lion King” and “Aladdin” Broadway musicals certainly took full advantage of “their stage” at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.
Unfortunately those waiting for their flight on June 1 were greeted with the always-dreaded flight delay due to rain. Fortunately for the passengers that had to wait an extra six hours to embark on their journey to the happiest place on Earth, their fellow passengers just so happened to be Broadway stars.
The video of the two casts singing has since gone viral. The cast of “The Lion King” put on a powerful performance to the moving song “Circle of Life.” And let’s be honest, who doesn’t get goosebumps when they hear those first few notes?
Aladdin’s genie and Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart then breaks in with an epic freestyle rap. The sing-off eventually bridges to a performance of “Arabian Nights,” but not before Iglehart points out that “The Lion King” has ten hits on one record, adding that it’s just “not fair.”
It is all in good fun though. Despite the delayed flight, the gate is filled with energy and positivity. Who would have thought that a delayed flight would have such a happy ending?
Upon the casts return to NYC, they shared some of the most fun moments from their days in Walt Disney World. It truly was a magical experience.
This is not the first time that an impromptu performance has been given in an unlikely place. Last August, the cast of “The Lion King” treated commuters on the subway to a performance of “Circle of Life.” The Australian cast of “The Lion King” also surprised people on their flight in April of last year, singing the familiar sounds of “Circle of Life” once again.
