Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60. Fisher was best known for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the “Star Wars” trilogy.
A statement released to People magazine, on behalf of Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd, reads:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
On Friday, Dec. 23, Fisher suffered a massive heart attack while flying from London to Los Angeles. She was rushed to the hospital and her mother Debbie Reynolds later tweeted on Christmas Day that she was in stable condition. In the same tweet, she had asked for prayers and good wishes. She later died in the hospital.
Fisher was also famous for being a writer and an advocate for mental health awareness. Her most recent book “The Princess Diarist” “focused on how her struggles with both [bipolar disorder and addictions] had shaped her as a person,” according to Vox.
Many took to social media Tuesday to remember a legend. Take a look at the tweets below:

So, officially, the last line Carrie Fisher ever did for a movie was the single word "Hope"

Just taking a moment to remember Carrie Fisher as a writer–smart, sardonic, self-aware, very funny, observant, tough but not unfair.

Carrie Fisher was the perfect reminder of what cool things can happen when you allow mental illness to inspire instead of repress.

Just angry tears right now. How dare the world take Carrie Fisher from her friends and family. How dare it take a ray of sunshine from us.

Carrie Fisher was more than a beloved actress. She was an outspoken mental health advocate, which Hollywood and the world needs more of. RIP

Star Wars is dope, but Carrie Fisher was SO MUCH MORE than Princess Leia. A strong, bad ass woman who spoke openly about mental illness.
