An image has surfaced from today’s Bengals vs. Panthers game, in which a Bengals player appears to be intentionally and brutally twisting the leg of a Panthers player. The photo, initially shared by Carolina Huddle, was quickly re-tweeted by Panthers players, calling out the move.

In the image, Vontaze Burfict (Bengals) is on the far left, appearing to twist the foot of Greg Olsen (Panthers).  Another player from each team is partially visible in the shot.

Panther Graham Gano retweeted the image before offering commentary.

Greg Olsen has not commented publicly on the matter, but according to ESPN, he had recently been treated for an ankle injury, and his inclusion in the game was considered questionable after limited use in practice Friday.

Olsen was not removed from the game after the tackle, and stayed in throughout. He caught 6 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown. The game ended in a tie after an overtime, with the Bengals kicker, Mike Nugent, missing a 34 yard field goal in the last two seconds of overtime, that would otherwise have given them the game.

NFL officials have not yet publicly addressed the question of whether the tackle was excessively brutal or whether they believe that the image shows what it appears to. However, on social media, fans are already calling for resolution of the matter, saying the incident (and alleged perpetrator) is a disgrace.

Several fans have tweeted that they saw a similar incident with Burfict twisting Cam Newton’s ankle. Newton has also been recently treated for an injured ankle.

The Bengals play the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday, and fans await to see whether Vontaze Burfict will be included in the game.
