A lot of ABC Family television shows will be making their season premiere or series debut this June. While some shows are still running their current season, there are a few shows that will be making a return and three new original series. All returning series have been on for at least a year now and their season finales definitely left the audience with a bunch of cliffhangers. So without further ado, here’s a recap of the finales to get you ready for the premieres! (Contains spoilers!)
1. Pretty Little Liars (Season 5: Tuesday, June 10 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
The season finale of drama “Pretty Little Liars” left fans with some answers but ended it with many more questions. Three major things from the finale. First of all, the four main girls (played by Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, and Lucy Hale) now know for sure that Alison, played by Sasha Pieterse, is alive because she made her return in the finale. Second, someone at the end of the finale buried Mrs. DiLaurentis (Alison’s mother). And the last major twist in the finale was being *so* close to finding out who “A” is while Ezra Fitz proclaims that he knows who “A” is. Well, turns out he’s shot while trying to fight A so the big question leading into the premier is #WhoShotEzra? The major question fans had after the finale was whether Ezra, played by Ian Harding, was dead but from the previews, it doesn’t seem like that’s a likely route. He’s signed on for season five so it would seem like Ezria (Aria + Ezra) fans might still have some hope left. But will he remember who “A” is when he awakens in the hospital…most likely not.
2. The Fosters (Season 2: Monday, June 16 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
Season finale of “The Fosters,” one word: intense. I was pretty much freaking out by the end of the episode. There’s a lot that happened and stood out in the finale so there can be a lot to remember. One of the most important being that Jude, played by Hayden Byerly, finally got adopted by Stef and Lena (Teri Polo and Sherri Saum, respectively)…but Callie, played by Maia Mitchell, was once again left out. As it turns out, the father that Callie and Jude met mid-season was only Jude’s father so until Callie’s biological father is found…no adoption for her. Another big problem that ended the finale was that Brandon, played by David Lambert, got and attacked and his hand slammed in a car door. Fans will have to see how this injury affects his emerging piano career. Another big cliffhanger that we were left with at the end of the episode was what exactly happened to Ana, the biological mother of Mariana and Jesus. During the episode, Brandon’s dad, Mike, is shown coming home after a night of drinking. Fans of “The Fosters” on Facebook seem to have made a possible connection being, could Mike have beaten up Ana–or worse? And how will Mike deal with inevitably discovering that his ex-girlfriend Dani and son Brandon hooked up? There’s going to be a lot to follow up on in the premiere but no doubt there should be lots of good things to anticipate.
Can’t…contain…emotions.
3. Switched at Birth (Season 3: Monday, June 16 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
Three of the biggest moments of the premiere definitely focused on relationships. Bay (Vanessa Marano) enlists Tank’s help in trying to find out the truth about Emmett’s (Sean Berdy) online friend. Another moment is that Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Campbell are now together, instead of many “Switched At Birth” fans actually hoping she would end up with Jorge. The most exciting moment for many longtime fans of the show was the moment that occurred between Bay and Emmett. After Emmett is beaten up in the park, him and Bay share an intense moment together and leads to where many Bemmett (Bay + Emmett) supporters hoped it would end up once again. More things are happening; Toby (Lucas Grabeel) is trying to make it work with Nikki and Regina has (Constance Marie) hit a wall with her job. There’s lots of things that could be answered in the premiere and we’ll see where they decide to take the many challenges.
4. Twisted
It hasn’t been confirmed yet whether this show is returning for another season or not. The show itself, nonetheless, is as the name suggests…twisted. Especially after what happened in the finale. The “Twisted” season finale left fans in an intense moment among many of the lead characters. There’s so much that could be discussed with every twist and turn that it took but a lot of the main drama happened in the last few moments. Probably the absolute most intensive scene from any episode. Anyway, Charlie and Jo (Maddie Hasson) are at Charlie’s childhood home and unloads on her how Tara, Danny Desai’s (Avan Jogia) aunt and Vikram’s sister, is his mother. Whoa right? Well, when Danny and Lacey (Kylie Bunbury) finally arrive to “save the day” thing really escalate. In the final minutes, Jo’s father, Kyle, shows up wielding a gun when seconds later, so does his wife Tess saying not to shoot. Tess kind of reveals a huge plot point in the show and it’s a pretty sick twist: she is Charlie’s mother. What. Just as the episode ends and the screen fades, you can hear gunshots going off but cannot tell who shot the gun or at whom the shots were directed.
Now that’s what I call twisted.
“Chasing Life,” (Tuesday, June 10 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.) “Young and Hungry” (Wednesday, June 25 from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) and “Mystery Girls” (Wednesday, June 25 from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.) will also be three new original shows premiering. “Chasing Life” will focus on a young woman whose life is changed after she is diagnosed with cancer. “Young and Hungry” will feature Emily Osment as a blogger who gets hired as a personal chef. “Mystery Girls,” starring Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, focuses on their characters as two past “detective show starlets” who are reunited by a “real-life mystery.” (IMDb)
