Have you ever dreamed of dancing like your favorite Broadway star? Wished you could join some of the most iconic dance numbers in musical theatre? Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, the musical-inspired workout 567Broadway! is turning those dreams into a reality with an at-home dance fitness workout video.
According to the Kickstarter campaign description, the musical-inspired workout video “is an at-home dance fitness routine that fuses the magic of Broadway with cardio and strength training to give you a full-body workout.” The 30-minute workout features songs from a variety of hit Broadway musicals, including “Hairspray,” “Grease,” “A Chorus Line” and more.
The campaign, which was launched Jan. 4, recently surpassed its $20,000 goal. The rewards for supporting the project include shirts, totes, water bottles and, of course, the workout DVD. The 567Broadway! class in Beverly Hills, California features classes that center around fan-favorite shows, such as “Mary Poppins” and “Spring Awakening.”
Previous dance-themed workouts include “The Room Where It Happens” from “Hamilton,” “Time Warp” from “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Cell Block Tango” from “Chicago” and “This Is Me,” the Golden Globe-winning song from the hit movie musical, “The Greatest Showman.” The live classes currently take place exclusively at The Bod by Kym Herjavec .
Creator and Broadway alum Joseph Corella wrote in the campaign description that he’s wanted to create the video since moving to Los Angeles and starting his dancing/fitness instruction passion in 2010. “I always felt there was more to working out than the typical intimidating fitness classes. Being a former Broadway stage and touring performer, I saw a unique opportunity to combine my decades of dance training with traditional fitness methods to create something magical,” he wrote.
He continued, “The joy of musical theater is forever infused in my spirit and creating a class with that music as a foundation has been incredible. Love, laughter, and light fills each and every class and it is so important to me to send that positive energy out into the world.”
The project was listed by Kickstarter as a “Project We Love” and has more than 300 backers. The campaign ends on Feb. 2 and the DVD has an estimated delivery of August 2018.
