Did you know the word “selfie” has been used 17,000 percent more in 2013 than it was in 2012?

You read that correctly…17 thousand percent more! This led to the Oxford Dictionary announcing that “selfie” has been chosen as the international “Word of the Year” for 2013.

What is a selfie?

A selfie, for those who have been buried in work all year and are unaware of this new phenomena, is a photograph that someone has taken of themself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website, as defined in the Oxford Dictionary.

Oxford Dictionary also warns within the definition itself that occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every single day isn’t necessary, so be wary of how often you’re sharing these selfies.
