This summer, I took part in the first Euro 2012 State of Search Roadshow. I met and interviewed 11 SEOs throughout Europe and blogged and tweeted about it on the Best European Search Blog 2012 called State of Search. I have met some great SEOs throughout my tour, here are just some of the highlights from my trip.
Three meetings in Berlin
In Berlin I met Andre Alpar, One partner of AKM3, Marcus Tober, the founder and CTO of searchmetrics and Alessio Madeyski SEO Manager. Alessio is very active on Twitter and is conducting his own interviews with other SEOs which I was not aware of before I was contacted him about meeting him in Berlin.
Biggest group of SEOs
In Florence, I met 6 SEOs. Elena Fiernelli kindly organised a lunch for the other SEOs and we went out to a typical Florentine restaurant. It was fantastic to meet all of them and find out about search in Florence. They also had questions for me, what search was like in the UK, if my clients had been affected by Penguin and about the search events that take place in London.
Most international aspect of the trip
It was great to meet an Australian in Austria who was working in SEO. Bruce Jackson has been working in Austria for the past 15 years and conducts a lot of his work in German for local SEOs. Many Australians do not speak a second language, yet alone work in it so I was very impressed.
Authentic Italian
Not only did I meet 6 SEOs in Florence and have lunch in a typical Florentine restaurant, but I also met Giuseppe Pastore, an SEO specialist in Rome and we had some authentic Roman food. Giuseppe has been working with websites for a number of years but in 2010 decided to change career and focus solely on SEO, moving to Rome.
The full interviews for all 6 SEOs that I met can be found on the State of Search blog.
Last weekend I met 2 SEOs in Stockholm where I found out about search in Sweden. Get in touch with me via Linkedin, Twitter or Facebook if you are in SEO and would like to be interviewed for State of Search. My next stop is Paris, September 5th to September 9th. I hope to be in Washington DC at the end of September and New York City for SMX East at the beginning of October.
