Are you looking to market on a national level or in a particular sector of the United States?
Are you so excited that you are showing up on the First Page of Google for one of your keyword search terms?
First-off you should know that Google search is based on the location of your computer or mobile device. So if you think you are number one across the country or world, you may want to try this simple technique.
1) Go to Google.com – Try this technique not signed into Google first. If you have a Gmail account, you understand what I am saying here.
2) Type in a search term which you know you will show up on the first page. Type your company name if you can’ think of anything.
3) Right above the results line – (Example 1 of 1,999,999 results) You will see a series of menus – Go over to the Search Tools and click on the button. (This button is your friend and can tell you so much information)
Anytime | All Results | City, State
I use the Anytime and City, State menus.
Anytime – I can perform current searches, all-time searches, or a custom time period. I use this a lot to see what my competition has posted or not posted. I also use this menu to see how fast Google is indexing my blog sites. I also like to perform searches for
City, State – Try your search in another part of the country. If your keywords show up, you are doing something pretty niche. Again, it is a good way to learn about others in your industry who may/may not be competitors. Also, it will help you see which sites rate higher in a particular area. Don’t get frustrated when you change locations and you do not see your information show up. Try changing your location to a city, state closer to your business location, (Example 50-100 miles). You may see that location-based search can be very powerful.
I leave you with this search information because it has helped me learn a lot about how Google search is really changing before our eyes and if you understand more how search works, you can apply these principles to your own blog writing and content on your website.
Google Search Tools are very powerful and they can really give you a good insight as to how far and how fast your message is reaching others. Check it out and keep testing!
