seo besides google ENX2 Marketing

Just yesterday, we all woke up to the news that Verizon had bought Yahoo for $4.83 billion. With this new purchase and its acquisition of AOL in 2015, Verizon has just thrown its hat in the ring to become a “top global mobile media company.” And it certainly looks like Verizon on its way – according to internal metrics, Yahoo has more than 1 billion monthly active users and 600 million monthly active mobile users.

With this recent merger, this begs the question: What will happen to the Yahoo search engine? It’s no secret that Yahoo has been struggling in recent years. The first real search engine giant when it began in the 1990s, Yahoo’s popularity has slowly been waning as Google has gained more and more of a cult following over the years. However, Yahoo still draws in the crowds – according to Alexa, Yahoo is the fifth most popular website on the internet today.

This brings up a good question…how’s your search ranking doing on Yahoo?

In the SEO business, we tend to have blinders on when it comes to rankings. Since Google is THE go-to search engine for everyone, we ignore the fact that there are other search engines out there. And not everyone uses Google. For instance, when you’re searching something from your favorite browser, it may be set to use Bing as your search engine. And yes, Google and Bing do in fact use different algorithms when ranking websites. So you may be at the top of Google for a certain keyword, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get the same result on Bing.

So when it comes to doing SEO for your law firm, you need to keep in mind that not everyone is using Google to search. In fact, did you know that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world? How’s your SEO doing there?

SEO is so tricky and has so many components to it that it’s pretty impossible to cater to just one search engine, let alone a handful. So here’s what you can do: Keep your SEO strategy as simple as possible. As long as you are succeeding in the three major components to your website – design, content, and links –your site will do fine on the search engines. But don’t neglect the other sites. Just keep an eye on those rankings and make sure they’re not suffering.
