As digital marketing expert and online influencer Anne Handley has said so well, “We don’t need more content. We need better content.”
This post isn’t about writing better content.
This post is about how to become a publicist and promote your own (great!) work so that you can get more blog traffic, convert visitors, and make a killing do what you do best in 2015.
13 Tips to Increase Blog Traffic
Okay! Let’s say you just wrote an awesome blog post filled with witty writing and high quality, actionable tips your client base will love, use, and share.
Here’s what you do next:
- Immediately post a link to your post to your main channels (for most people this includes Facebook, Google, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube plus any niche sites they are on or shiny new things like Snapchat).
- Schedule additional posts using Bufferapp or HootSuite or your personal favorite scheduler: Facebook. One additional time midway in your posting cycle. Google. One additional time midway in your posting cycle. Instagram. One additional time midway in your posting cycle.LinkedIn. One additional time midway in your posting cycle.Pinterest. One additional time midway in your posting cycle.Twitter. Because Twitter feeds are so busy, Twitter should be scheduled 3X the first day, and then at 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 8 months, and 1 year if the content is evergreen.YouTube. I use videos in some of my posts. If that is the case for you, comment on the video with a link to your post, create a playlist specific to your blog, and post a link to your blog in the notes section for each video.
So Much For Basics
Certain channels, like Instagram, take some extra effort. Here’s what to do:
- Because Instagram doesn’t allow you to link images, use a tool like Canva to create an image or eye-grabbing graphic of your post and add a call to action with a link on the image.
- For Twitter, don’t be afraid to play around with strong calls to action like, “Read and love my post!” with a link and up to two relevant hashtags.
- Also for Twitter, upload an image. Tweets with images get way more play than tweets without. The image must be at least 900 pixels wide, so use preview to resize if needed. And although it needs to be large, it will be cropped. So, center the most important part of the image.
- Tweet your Facebook Page post. Get the link by clicking on the post time stamp (See image, below. Cool, huh?).
- You can tweet a Facebook profile post, too (Follow directions, above.).
