In 2012, the craft brewing industry grew 15% by volume and 17% by retail dollars. It has helped the overall brewing industry grow 1%, despite sales numbers outside of craft markets.

For the past several years, microbrew sales have continued to grow, attracting a number of new breweries to open their doors.

The popularity of microbrews, and their local support, has also brought several breweries back from the dead, like Drewerys.

Originating in 1877, the last cases of beer left South Bend, Indiana in November 1972.

New owners have revived the old brew and have slated production for later this year. The beer will first be shipped to around 100 South Bend, Indiana bars before wider-distribution plans are finalized.
