Verizon FiOS is simply one of those services that my family has come to rely on. Like many families, we are very busy — work, school, swimming classes, blogging and a home business. So we look to technology to make our lives more manageable. Specifically — connected devices.
Today, in our home, we have roughly 9 devices connected to the Internet. From the XBOX 360 to iPhones to iPads to smart TVs. Let’s not forget streaming services such as Netflix, Vudu and Pandora. Thanks to Verizon FiOS, I am not concerned with having too many devices connected to the Internet.
The Connection
Each and every device. Each and every service. Is another “thing” that connects to the Internet and negotiates a slice of precious bandwidth. To make matters a bit more bandwidth sensitive, we are seeing the introduction of more smart devices, in the home. Soon everything will be connected to the Internet — smart lights, smart shades, smart dog feeders and smart refrigerators.
So we have the potential of going from 9 devices connected to the Internet to 50 devices. And each of those devices will have a host of applications that will want access to the Internet, as well. So the smart home, of the very near future, will need a good Internet connection.
How Does
So how does the busy family benefit from connected devices? Well let’s start with what the busy family does:
-
you use multiple devices such as computers, laptops, smartphones and smart TVs
-
you stream music from Pandora to multiple smartphones
-
you stream videos from Netflix to multiple computers
-
you play Halo (online) on your XBOX 360 with friends
-
you use FaceTime to chat with family across the country
The Advice
If the smart home stands to have dozens of devices connected to the Internet — then having a good Internet connection is a requirement. And for me. For my family. Verizon FiOS has that good connection.
Is Verizon FiOS perfect? No.
My family has experienced outages, billing issues and even less than stellar Internet speeds. But the company is consistent with its service. A good service. And I am hoping that Verizon will continue that level of service, as our family’s demand for more bandwidth will only increase.

Disclaimer: I have been a Verizon FiOS customer for over 5 years and am currently a #SomosFiOS Influencer. Although I have been compensated to share my experience with Verizon FiOS, all opinions regarding product and services are all my own.
Trust me, I would do absolutely anything to get away from Time Warner Cable, which likely has the worst customer service in America. But then, have been waiting for FiOS in my area forever. and it’s not like i live in the bunnies. oh well
I am sorry to hear that. But I know the feeling. It’s very frustrating. Have you checked the FiOS site for availability?
