When Claudio isn’t working or pinning, he can be found reading books and magazines of all kinds, especially those that are design and art related. “I’m a huge fan of comic books and nerdy stuff too… One of my favorite hobbies is cosplaying with my friends in fan conventions.” Claudio’s passion for design, animation, comic books, movies, advertising, and architecture has earned him over 1.6 million Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest and what inspired you to make an account?

I’ve been a Pinterest user for almost two years, I think. When I first joined I was immediately hooked by so many beautiful and unusual images. It’s really inspiring and gives me a lot of fun and professional resources too.

Why do you like Pinterest?

On Pinterest I can find beautiful, inspiring, unique images that stimulate my imagination at any given time. It makes me feel good and helps me to see beauty in unexpected places. I learn so much every time I get on. It helps me to be a better creative professional.

You have gained over 1.6 M Pinterest followers! That is so awesome! What makes your Pinterest unique?

I think many of the images I share have a kind of unusual, unexpected, not-so-obvious view of some subjects that I really enjoy. Maybe that quality gets people’s attention in a way that images that are only ‘beautiful,’ don’t.

Claudio has a wide array of comic books, design books, action figures & collectibles, and more!

Are you from São Paulo, Brazil originally? What do you like about it there?

Yes, I was born here and I think I’ll always live here. It’s a place where you can find all kinds of people and from everywhere. You can find anything here if you know where to look for it. There are lots of big city problems, of course, but I love my city.

What are your favorite places you’ve traveled to?

I still haven’t travelled outside of Brazil. One of the best places I’ve travelled to is Bahia State, my parents’ birthplace. The last time I went there was three years ago. It was great!

What are your favorite Pinterest boards to pin onto and why?

Illustration is one of my favorites because I’m always discovering new, beautiful styles and learning about old and new techniques. Street Art, Street Style, Street Visions is another board I really like. I pin images that maybe don’t look related at a first glance, but they are all about what happens on the street… people and the way they relate to the public space with their art, clothing and behavior.

Your Graphic Design board is awesome! We also love your Advertising board. Tell us more about these boards and why you made them!

Graphic design can create powerful communication. You can elicit rational and emotional responses by using colors, shapes, letters, etc… It still amazes me how powerful a few elements can be if used in smart ways. The images I collect on that board help me to be a better professional.

Before I decided to be a graphic designer I dreamt of working in advertising and for me it’s still an interesting subject. I learn a lot about creativity, communication, and how to get people’s attention with the ads I pin on my Advertising board.

What is your Pinterest style?

A good way to define my style is this quote from comic strip “Calvin & Hobbes” by Bill Watterson: “I try to make everyone’s day a little more surreal.” I like sharing images that make me (and hopefully other people) see things in a different, unexpected way. For me, life is more interesting like that.

Tell us more about being a graphic designer and animator. What got you interested in that?

I love graphic design (and design of any kind, for that matter) because it’s something between art and science. You can create things that are beautiful but they need to be functional as well. I find this entire process fascinating.

I’m not a professional animator (yet!). For me, animation is a unique form of art. It allows artists to convey ideas and emotions in unlimited ways.

Tell us more about your other passions and interests!

I love hanging out with my friends to laugh and talk about nothing in particular. I enjoy reading books about psychology, mythology, and philosophy. I love music too. My playlist will go from Elvis to J-Pop to African songs to Brazilian singers to cartoon theme songs… you get the idea! My favorite movies include: Labyrinth, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Back to the Future.

What are your plans and hopes for the future?

I hope to be a better graphic designer every day, a professional animator as soon as possible, to travel around the world, and to have a lot of fun and learning in the process.
