Did you know that the half-life of a Pinterest Pin is about 1,600 times longer than a Facebook Post?
This means that the time you spend on creating a post inside of Pinterest will have a longer viewing life than a post you create inside of Facebook.
The reason I wanted to share this statistic with you is because Pinterest is one of the most engaging social networks with over 150 million active users and one which I use on a regular basis to generate backlinks.
Backlinks are still a huge piece of the SEO puzzle and do help generate organic traffic, and increase search engine rankings. There used to be so many ways you could generate backlinks, but search engines now prioritise topic relevance and user experience over a “free-for-all” approach with potential spam.
Social Media is a great way to generate backlinks to your website but I want to share with you my 3 ways that will help you generate backlinks to your website with Pinterest, and a step-by-step process to help you achieve backlinks.
1. Upload Images From Your Website
One of the best ways to generate backlinks to your website with Pinterest is through actually uploading images from your website as pins. Here is how you can do this:
Step 1:
Choose the “save from a website” option and type in the URL of your website. Pinterest will then scan your website, and give you a selection of image for you to pin.
Step 2:
Select the image you would like to upload from the choice of visuals.
Step 3:
Add a description including keywords that have been used to define the image, and the webpage it sits on. If you are going to share a visual that is attached to a blog, make sure you include the keywords you used, and give a direct link to the page in the description as well as as the link behind the visual – see below for where to edit this.
Doing the above will give you two great backlinks that help with your search engine ranking.
2. Optimise Your Profile
Generating backlinks is more than just uploading content to Pinterest. You also want to look at ways to generate backlinks by being trusted and a great way to do this is by having a completed Pinterest profile. For credibility and trust, make sure you think about the following:
- Simple username that reflects your brand
- About section completed
- Location added
- Profile picture added
- A website link
3. Pinterest Boards
Having a great selection of Pinterest boards covering a range of topics including your industry, and where you are most knowledgeable is a great way to drive backlinks.
Your Pinterest board, for maximum backlink capability should have a large collection of visuals covering different topics and sizes (both landscape and portrait) and content that is popular with your audience. If a large number of your pins link back to your website and you have a strong following that continuously re-pins your content, this will generate backlinks to your website.
When using Pinterest boards, think about having a mixture of secret, and collaborative boards. You want to build your credibility online and collaborating on board with other industry experts is a great way to do this.
